Ralph Gonsalves dialog after he lost the SVG election
Congratulation Ralph Gonsalves! You have answered some of my questions that I will try to cover.
The services you are requiring as the former PM was instituted by you and I like what it covers. I believe Godwin Friday should pass the torch because it was very helpful for both the previous Prime Ministers and he and his family can and will benefit when his time comes.
One reporter asked Ralph an important question that I wrote while listening to his speech: His remarks about “seeing around the corner”. That to me is guessing and implementing issues without the help of actual data. This is probably why the voters rejected his CORNER VIEWS. That’s why it appeared to voters that it was “RALPH WAY OR THE HIGHWAY”. He also never answered the question: why did the people rejected his request for a 6th term. If he doesn’t know the answer, then he can never correct his errors and move the country forward.
Then there is the passport issue that I believe should be examined very closely and implement to ensure SVG benefits from any and all investments. I’d like investments in agriculture because it involves many more Vincentians than a job at Sandals. Sandals should also use food products grown in SVG, instead of importing them. Which brings me to the point of the new port: Was it built to get Coreas, Sandals and other companies to import stuff, while SVG has nothing or very little to export.
The new government is not in power. It’s only 2 weeks since the election and you are very critical of things you could and should have done before you were kicked-out of office. I pointed out in a previous article that the new government was starting kinder garden, because I tried to get Friday to setup his candidates are Ministers in Waiting, for each ministry, so they would have an opportunity to look at, study and learn how these ministries operate. He didn’t and Nigel told me you won’t when I mentioned it to him; the last time I saw him. Now even before they sit down in their offices these ministers are addressing issues they haven’t seen the data to validate their observations.
I like the way Ralph mentioned his conversation with Mitchell and Arnhim when he was PM. I think there must and should be a private dialog between Ralph and Godwin. Just like the one Mitchell had with Ralph before he took the reins in 2001. Godwin should have a private meeting with Ralph. I am suggesting Sandals welcome them to spend a weekend at it resort, so they can meet in a friendly manner and get to know each other much better. Both men should realize that they are not doing this to score point for themselves, but for the people of SVG, who they said they want to serve.
I believe what Ralph is relaying to the people now should have been done before now. He has more than 20 years to get the people of SVG on side with issues like investments and productivity. I agree some workers should keep their jobs to continue the tasks they are handling. Bringing new people into positions they have to start in kinder garden can create lots of errors. I also each minister should get his staff to prepare information the ministries are handling. Data is very important and all report must include data to prove how accurate they are.
It appears that SVG can return to a peaceful environment with a change in government, if both leaders co-operate and work for the people of SVG. Whatever the ULP did to move SVG forward should continue and Ralph should not accuse the NDP of stealing or using the ULP ideas.
I am begging Godwin to call Ralph and ask for a dialog. This is not for either man, but for the people of SVG. Whoever is taking care of SVG carnival should get the calypsonian (those for and against each party) to have night of their own. This should include old and new artists. Bring them all together to celebrate Vincy 2026 Carnival. It can also be a session to honour Frankie McIntosh, Soso and any artist that put our loving island before the world.
I’ll end her because it’s been a long night listening to the leader of the opposition speech.
